Doctor Bio

Dr Bessam Farjo graduated as a doctor of medicine in 1988 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. After qualifying he did 5 years of hospital training in general surgery before embarking on a career in hair transplant surgery.

In 1992, he trained in hair restoration surgery in Toronto, Canada, and in 1993, he co-founded the Farjo Hair Institute with his wife, Dr Nilofer Farjo, exclusively practicing hair restoration surgery and medicine in Manchester and London.

Dr Farjo offers hair transplant surgical procedures for scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes trauma, beard, moustache, sideburns and hairline restoration after facelifts, trauma or burns. Back in 1996, he performed one of the world’s first full beard restoration by hair transplantation on a burn victim.

Dr Farjo offers both FUE and strip FUT techniques, and makes his recommendations based on each patient’s best interests and desires. He limits his FUE procedures to 3000 grafts if indicated, whilst strip FUT can achieve up to a maximum of 5000 grafts in the appropriate candidate per session.

The Farjo Hair Institute is also a research and education centre, exploring and developing new hair transplant techniques, innovative surgical procedures and other potential future treatments. Drs Farjo have carefully built a highly qualified, highly experienced medical and technical team.

Dr Farjo was honoured to be elected the first President from Europe of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) in 2007 and currently serves as lead International Ambassador. In 1996, he co-founded the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS) and served as President during 2002-2004. In 2002, Dr Farjo was host, program chairman and congress organiser of the 5th Annual conference of the European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery in London, England. He served as Board Governor and Vice-President until 2005.

He is a registered member of the Institute of Trichologists (est. 1902) and has been a Board Governor and medical advisor since 2000. In 2006, he was bestowed with the title of Fellow of the Institute of Trichologists in recognition of contributions to the Institute as well as research and field advancements.

He has as of 2015 over 70 different hair and scalp presentations/publications to his credit at more than 80 different meetings, workshops and conferences around the world.

Results

Patient Details: Age 51
Revision Surgeon: Dr. Bessam Farjo

Details: This man had harsh large grafts put into his temples when he was much younger. Eventually he lost the remainder of his forelock leaving with the appearance of ‘hair’ horns at the front. My treatment consisted of excising (cutting out) the grafted rows and stitching the cut. This was done similar to a strip harvest due to the closeness of the plug grafts and their intensity. The removed old grafts were then micro dissected and redistributed into the middle. Additionally, fresh 1165 FU grafts were harvested from the back and used to fill the frontal forelock. He came back a second time a few months later for a small strip session to further feather the frontal hairline and cover the fine corrective scars.

Patient Details: Age 38
Revision Surgeon: Dr. Bessam Farjo

Details: This patient was 38 when he first approached us about his hair. In 2001, he had one transplant with a commercial clinic that left him with very obvious rows of compressed and angry looking minigrafts. Worse still the hairs were in an unnatural direction and pointing too straight up. He resorted to shaving the grafts and wearing a hairpiece until his result with me. The photos show him after one repair FUT session of 2150 grafts which included 297 single hairs but only 117 3-4 haired grafts. He was delighted enough to let me take him to the live surgery viewing session at the ISHRS 2010 Annual Meeting in Boston.
